David Koch: Billionaire Republican Donor, Dies at 79

Billionaire David Koch, a major donor to the Republican party and one of the world’s richest people  has died at the age of 79. The cause of death was not disclosed, but Koch had been battling prostate cancer for nearly three decades.

Koch was one of the world’s richest people, worth $42.5 billion, according to Forbes, largely due to his stake in Koch Industries, one of the largest private companies in the U.S. with more than $110 billion in revenues.

Late Koch and his brother, Charles, co-owned Koch Industries, a Nebraska-based energy and chemical company, since 1983. David stepped down from running the Koch organization last year due to declining health.

The Koch brothers helped to build a massive conservative network of donors for organizations that work to mobilize voters and sway elected officials in support of libertarian-leaning economic policies.
